📍 Based in New York City & dating online?
You probably already know how important photos are to your dating app profile.
Pro quality photos can make a >10x difference in both the quantity & quality of your matches 🎣
This is true whether you’re using Tinder, Hinge, OKCupid, Plenty of Fish, Upward, or another online dating app.
I caught up with top NYC photographer German Marin to learn about:
How to capture a perfect portrait for dating apps
What’s happening in the NYC local dating scene
Check our conversation out below! ⬇️
[Blaine] What's the secret to taking a great portrait?
[German] Definitely natural light.
Here are 3 reasons why you should use natural light for your Online Dating Photos.
It compliments your skin bringing up those natural skin tones on everyone, it doesn't matter if you are a guy or a girl your skin would just glow.
Natural light brings up your natural beauty or handsomeness on everyone.
The majority of people on dating apps don't like studio photos or photos with flash.
After doing Online Dating Photos in NYC for more than 8 years and working with the best Dating Coaches like Blaine and Matchmakers, I know that using natural light for your dating photos would definitely help you stand out and get more clicks on those dating apps.
I know this because all my clients send me messages saying their DMS increases after uploading their new photos.
[Blaine] Have you seen an increase in clients asking for photos for dating apps or social media?
[German] Yes, especially after the pandemic, people want to be in love or find that special one.
I had several clients reaching out back in June asking me to do photoshoots even though the whole city was in lockdown.
I'd seen this grow so much in the 8 years that I have been doing Online Dating Photos and more and more people are asking for support from professionals like us.
[Blaine] What are some of your favorite places to shoot in NYC?
[German] I love this question. I have several locations that I use in Manhattan: TriBeCa, SoHo, and either the East or West Village.
But let me just tell you why I LOVE Tribeca.
Tribeca is the quietest place in the big noisy apple and I always recommend it to my shy clients. I love the vibe, texture, color, and of course the iconic cobble streets.
Brooklyn has also those iconic City views like Dumbo, Brooklyn Heights Promenade, and Williamsburg. You can't go wrong with any of these locations.
Long Island City also has stunning city views that just take your breath away.
[Blaine] What are some of your favorite date spots in and around NYC?
[German] So many good spots but here are my top 3:
Bryant Park enjoying the noise of the city or setting by the grass on movie night is just a unique experience
I'm from Brooklyn so definitely a walk by the Promenade to keep social distancing. This place was actually where my husband and I went on our third date.
And ending at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory or the famous Juliana's Pizza.
[BLAINE] What makes the NYC dating scene unique?
[GERMAN] Dating in NYC is a unique experience itself.
My husband and I used to go on dates before the pandemic, and I remember walking at night and seeing all the night-life that the city brings with people from all over the world!
